Burn baby Burn

Oh Burnt Sugar Pomade.. How I heart thee! When I first became natural things like baggying, sealing, moisturizing, clarifying, and wash and going (I know I should’ve said washing..dont judge me) were all so confusing. I didn’t know what to do, when, how, or what to use. Now I am relieved to say I have my regimen down pact. Granted my routine is for the cold weather so most likely it will change soon, but probably only slightly. I’ll probably post my complete regimen soon along with the products I use in the near future. One thing I believe I’ve mastered is sealing my ends. It wouldn’t be at all possible without the light of my life (sorry baby) ……

Ingredients; castor oil, soy wax, organic virgin coconut oil, mango seed oil, olive oil, unrefined hempseed oil, cocoa butter, broccoli seed oil, and fragrance.

Description; “Similar in texture to an old school 'hair grease,' This blend of oils, butters, and veggie waxes acts as a humectant and protectant for hair, increasing shine to a high glossy sheen and locking in moisture. It's packed with essential fatty acids to nourish scalp, and actually sinks into your hair and skin for a long lasting, non-greasy feeling. It's great for braids, imparts shine and moisture to loose hair, brushes nicely into the hairline for a glossy finish, and adds luster to locks!”

Now this ish right here nigga! This is right HERE!!! GIRL BYE. I love this pomade so much. In all honestly the main reason I bought it is because I wanted to see what it smelled like. I had planned on giving it away once I received it, but Hunnay let me tell you something; you will neva eeeeeevvva eva eva eva catch me without this stuff again. Not Neva. A lot of people say the smell is too sweet and I feel bad for them. This stuff smells like sweet, candy, carmel, deliciousness. Just downright wonderful. It makes my hair so soft. I use it to seal my ends when I twist and I end up with soft, moisturized, fluffy hair. You can find out more about it at oyins website. Check them out I really love them and I love supporting black owned businesses. I’m waiting on my 8oz jar as we speak : )

Henna is flya than reindeer in the winta, in the winta

Lol excuse the Nikki Minaj reference couldn’t help it. Ok so henna, henna, henna where do I begin.. I first read about it on Curly Nikki (check her out people she’s dope) FYI I’m by no means an expert on Henna so I would advise anyone who wants to read the “fine Print” to either go to curly Nikki’s website or read about it here. Anywho, I could have easily chose to try Cassia, Alma, Brahmi or any mixture other Ayurvedic powders but henna intrigued me the most. Some people are turned off by the color and possible pattern loosening effects, but I wasn’t really disturbed by either. I didn’t really think my kinky 4a/b hair would be affected and the color was actually something I wouldn’t have minded. Well after 3 applications let me so say this: I love the color of my hair!!! You can’t tell when I’m indoors, but once the light hits it, it’s like a coppery red. I think it’s really cute. My first three applications were literally 1 week apart from each other but I don’t plan to do it as often in the future . I’ll probably try to do it every two weeks.

· For my mix I used Nikki’s current recipe which is green tea mixed with honey right before application. I mix until it’s a thick mashed potato-like consistency.

· I shampoo with Giovanni smooth as silk shampoo, blot my hair with a t-shirt, then apply the henna. I usually leave it on for 6 or 7 hours. When I rinsed on my first try, I jumped right in the shower. By the end of the shower the water was freezing cold. After that I decided that it was better to rinse most of it out in the kitchen sink, that way I can get most of it out without having to, a. use all the hot water and b. without having to be fully engulfed in water which is a plus bc my apartment is usually freezing.

· After most of it is rinsed out I hop in the shower and use VO5 moisture milks to wash the rest out. I usually go through 1 ½ bottles. I know when it’s fully out when the water runs clear. Anything that’s still in my hair I don’t worry about because it should come out with the DC.

· For my DC I use AO honeysuckle rose and/or white chamomile mixed with honey. By the time I’m at this step its usually late so I leave it in overnight and rinse in the morning.

As far as the curl loosening, I haven’t really seen any and when I did, it only lasted a day or two. Now as for the strengthening and thickening part… I’m not sure. 1. My hair is thick to begin with 2. I haven’t done any strand tests or anything so I don’t have anything to make comparisons to (I guess I suck for that). However, I can say that I haven’t seen any negative results either. I’ll keep you all updated any future discoveries but I plan to continue using Henna.
