Henna is flya than reindeer in the winta, in the winta

Lol excuse the Nikki Minaj reference couldn’t help it. Ok so henna, henna, henna where do I begin.. I first read about it on Curly Nikki (check her out people she’s dope) FYI I’m by no means an expert on Henna so I would advise anyone who wants to read the “fine Print” to either go to curly Nikki’s website or read about it here. Anywho, I could have easily chose to try Cassia, Alma, Brahmi or any mixture other Ayurvedic powders but henna intrigued me the most. Some people are turned off by the color and possible pattern loosening effects, but I wasn’t really disturbed by either. I didn’t really think my kinky 4a/b hair would be affected and the color was actually something I wouldn’t have minded. Well after 3 applications let me so say this: I love the color of my hair!!! You can’t tell when I’m indoors, but once the light hits it, it’s like a coppery red. I think it’s really cute. My first three applications were literally 1 week apart from each other but I don’t plan to do it as often in the future . I’ll probably try to do it every two weeks.

· For my mix I used Nikki’s current recipe which is green tea mixed with honey right before application. I mix until it’s a thick mashed potato-like consistency.

· I shampoo with Giovanni smooth as silk shampoo, blot my hair with a t-shirt, then apply the henna. I usually leave it on for 6 or 7 hours. When I rinsed on my first try, I jumped right in the shower. By the end of the shower the water was freezing cold. After that I decided that it was better to rinse most of it out in the kitchen sink, that way I can get most of it out without having to, a. use all the hot water and b. without having to be fully engulfed in water which is a plus bc my apartment is usually freezing.

· After most of it is rinsed out I hop in the shower and use VO5 moisture milks to wash the rest out. I usually go through 1 ½ bottles. I know when it’s fully out when the water runs clear. Anything that’s still in my hair I don’t worry about because it should come out with the DC.

· For my DC I use AO honeysuckle rose and/or white chamomile mixed with honey. By the time I’m at this step its usually late so I leave it in overnight and rinse in the morning.

As far as the curl loosening, I haven’t really seen any and when I did, it only lasted a day or two. Now as for the strengthening and thickening part… I’m not sure. 1. My hair is thick to begin with 2. I haven’t done any strand tests or anything so I don’t have anything to make comparisons to (I guess I suck for that). However, I can say that I haven’t seen any negative results either. I’ll keep you all updated any future discoveries but I plan to continue using Henna.

hair.. Hair… HAIR!!!

This will officially be my first post!! I plan to blog about different things but for the most part I plan to discuss hair… Natural hair that is. I’ve recently become a natural transitioning for 4 months before my BC (big chop) July 19 09. To say I haven’t looked back would be a straight up and down LIE! I miss my doobies and the smell of my various hair polishers and oil sheens. Now don’t get it twisted folks, my hair was healthy and thick permed, but man I was bored. I was so jealous of the girls I saw with full heads of thick, curly, kinky, luscious wonderfulness. I would stalk natural blogs and drool over fotki albums. I’d imagine myself with different hair types (that’s right ALL of them I don’t discriminate I think its all GAWGEOUS) and how I’d style and rock it. Even though I loved my permed hair I knew I was stunting the potential for it to be so much more. Plus I was tired of waiting outside 6:30 am (you read right dammit it wasn’t a game it was that serious!) just to sign “the list” so I wouldn’t be in there for 40 hours on a Saturday (ladies who hail from essex county know the pain I speak of ). I was tired of running from the rain, limiting my workout sessions, and the burns scabs that came with the crack. So I decided it was time to try something different. I had looked the same for so long.. why not just go for it?!? It wasn’t the say all to end all or however the saying goes. If I wanted I could easily perm it again. Now that I’m five months down the road to hair crack recovery, I think it’s safe to say I’ve found a new addiction: Natural Hair!!!!! Through this blog I’ll share with you the ups and downs of my journey and hopefully I’ll be featuring you all too so we can share with each other! Like I said before I’ll discuss other things in addition to hair so don’t be surprised when my posts aren’t hair-related. So whether you’re natural, considering it, or you’re just interested welcome and I hope you enjoy!
